Up 21 Foundation

Up 21 Foundation.

I’m offering up a spiritual adventure to support Up 21:

Welcome to the UP21 Foundation, located in St. Tammany Parish in Louisiana. UP21 is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to provide support, resources and education to families of individuals with Down syndrome and the community to foster an environment in which individuals with Down syndrome achieve their full potential in their community.

They are still working out the kinks but I hope you will consider supporting them.

I’m enjoying using my favorite form of recreation to raise money for various worthy causes – last week we raised $250 for Bayou Community Academy a local charter school. Whose motto is “Come to Learn – Learn to Serve”.

Supreme Court Ruling

I have a particular attachment to this case. 10 years ago I was traveling to speak to the folks at Carrolton Church about the status of the denomination. I was rear ended and didn’t make it that day. Later I had another painful experience. I had to tell them that as far as the PC(USA) was concerned they did not own their own property. That the PC(USA) had made claim to their property, therefore, leaving the denomination would be more complicated than they ever imagined.

Well I certainly had no idea! In my ignorance I spoke more truth that day than I knew. I was wrong that we could reform our once great denomination. But I am glad that we made a faithful effort. Now I’m so glad that the congregation I serve has made the transition to the EPC and although the path Carrolton has journeyed has been hard I believe it will serve the rest of the Church well. At least in Louisiana we have a clear legal precedence.

Our former denomination needs to stop holding congregations hostage and allow them to pursue their God directed paths.

Isaac is back -Regional Weather Radar

Coming under the heading of “You’ve got to be kidding me?” The remains of Isaac are back in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Louisiana. I cannot remember the storm but this has happened in the last ten years. That cold front cannot get here soon enough. Please.

I am remembering the recent sermon on the creation being subjected to frustration. But the purpose is our future hope! I’ll have this week’s message up soon.

Not much more to add to this wonderful account from Aurora

(Updates follow article)

Four years ago today, I posted a blog about my emergency room “miracle experience” after the Aurora Theater shooting. The post went viral, and created some controversy. Does God really do miracles? Why for one person and not another? Does a good God even exist?

I don’t claim to have all the answers. But I saw the miracle with my own eyes. Thank you to those who have asked me to repost this story for a reminder: God is still at work.

July 23, 2012

At Columbine High School, I have seen this before. But not up close.  As a church pastor in Denver, I have worked as a chaplain alongside several police and fire departments. I was privileged to counsel parents just hours after the Columbine shootings. However, in this new tragedy at the Aurora Theater Dark Night shooting, one of the victims was a 22-year-old…

VBS – All Things Are Possible With God

We had a great time this week learning to “Trust God” here are a few fun photos. Next week I should have my sermon on Romans 6 and 7 and then we will begin with eight sermons from Romans 8 – can’t wait!  (groan)”

Below are a series of photos with one duplicate:  First is the whole family then the fun at VBS that some of us had (these photos did not include my wife and daughter so I just threw in the family photo)!  Remember Romans 8:38 – “I am convinced that nothing can separate me from the love of God in Christ Jesus!”

A Brief Commercial Break

To my friends grappling with the needs of a fragmented PC(USA). There is a developing tool for those who are looking for Pastors and Calls in this age of finding ourselves scattered over several denominations/associations with no central hub for search processes.
I hope PNC’s and Pastors alike would begin to sign up and utilize this new tool from the Layman:
A new website has been launched, seeking to assist evangelicals seeking a call, and to match them with evangelical churches seeking a minister.

“Pastor Call: Someone you can call …” can be found at http://www.pastorcall.org.

The subscription-based website is designed to give “individuals and groups the confidence that when they find a match, that the person or group found will have the same traditions and that there will be no surprises.”

Geared toward the Presbyterian Church (USA), the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC), ECO: A Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians and the United Church of Christ (UCC), the website states that “in the midst of great transition among these denominations, our hope is to facilitate connections.”

“Our doors are open to assist any and all orthodox reformed conservatives in the PCUSA, EPC, ECO and UCC.”

Membership for the website is $30 for six months for an individual; and $60 for six months for an institution (church or PNC). The fees cover the costs of maintaining the website and payments are made through PayPal.
