Big Idea

Tuesday’s big idea is found in John 8:12-51 as Jesus proclaims who he is.

Jesus lights our path.

Jesus gives us the truth.

Jesus is eternal.

These big ideas should shape the Christian’s life. From the big things down to the little things.

Practical Blessing for the day – Drive nice. Do you glorify God in your treatment of your fellow travelers? Its never too late to start.

Do Something Friday ( A Day Late)

I’m on the road this weekend so I missed my post yesterday but today’s devotion has a powerful suggestion. Prayer Walking. Walk you neighborhood or another neighborhood and pray over each and every home you pass.

Prayer really is a powerful weapon. If Christians prayed over every home in our city for 40 days would there be a change?

You bet there would be!

God bless and see you Sunday!

Wednesday’s Thought: The House of the Lord

Isaiah 2:1-5 describes the establishment of the House of the Lord as preeminent upon the earth. This is such an exciting thing to consider, the physical manifestation of God’s reign on earth will occur in such a manner that none can ignore it.

However, Christ has already come to reveal God as preeminent. We are touched by the living God as Christ dwells among us as the Emmanuel – God with Us!

Bless God today by being focused upon him. Cut your fellow humans some slack – they are only human.

I’m amazed how often focusing on God and just ignoring my daily problems is all the solution I need. It really does make me recognize that the only way for me to become a better person is for me to focus on God more. God must be preeminent in my daily thoughts.

Magnifying God

Is it possible for a human being to magnify God? Apparently; so if we are students of scripture, we will remember a passage commonly called “The Magnificat”:

Luke 1:46-49 46 And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48 for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; 49 for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.

What a glorious thought but theologically I have issues (Oh do I have issues)- God cannot be made larger can he? Of course not. I as a human cannot add to God’s glory.

But we can call attention to him. We can magnify people’s ability to see and hear God in their lives. By example we can show the love he’s given to us. By example we can praise him. Living changed lives we show symptoms of God at work on earth.

So how will you magnify God today? Mary sang of God’s love for the simple, and poor what will you/I do?

Early Reports are In and a shared Blessing

The 40 Days of Blessing are off to a powerful start. I think two groups have still to meet but we are on track to have over 50 people participate in small groups this week alone!

More groups can be formed and we do have extra copies of the book for those who would like to join in.

Yesterday I attended the funeral of a dear friend and a real pillar of the faith in my life. She was a true disciple. What a blessing to have known such a Christian as Kay! To celebrate her life in Christ was a powerful reminder to me of a season in which God chose to bless me and he did so powerfully through the actions of his Church at Canal Street Presbyterian.

Thank you Kay and all my brothers and sisters from Canal Street!

Do Something Fridays

Today’s 40 Days of Blessing devotion reminds us that the church is supposed to do good!

A shocking revelation!

What is our problem? I think world peace, poverty, homelessness, and sin just overwhelm our thinking and we tend to just turn away and focus on being nice people instead. Why not just do something? Even a little something – is something!

So today I’m encouraging my small group to bring canned goods, I’ll deliver them to the food pantry next week. Why don’t all of you take a little time today and schedule a stop at the food pantry, drop off a can, two cans, maybe some diswasher powder – something.

After all a lot of little somethings can add up! Try this experiment.

Take out a calculator, type in the number 1 multiply it by two, then multiply by two, and then multiply by two – and so on and so on….

How long did it take to get to a million? A little something can grow if we all do it.

God Bless you today – now go do something for Jesus’ sake.

The Blessing Life is…!

There are so many confusing ideas about what the blessing life is. Rather than tell you what it isn’t let me start with the core truth about the blessing life – God has blessed us.

From the mouth of babes!

Be blessed today by God believe in him.

Then Bless God passionately for what he has done.

Then bless others.

That’s the Christian life.

Wednesday’s Thought

Reading from The Blessing Life Week one Day 4:

God’s blessing project extends to the ends of the earth. The Lord desires to bring his saving power to bear among all nations. Pray for the Church throughout the world. Pray for those who have never heard of Jesus. Pray for our missionaries.

Today I especially pray for my friends doing missions in:

India
Indonesia
and
Sudan

Will you pray for missionaries? What countries are you covering in prayer today?
