Dear Friends,
Going through a season of travel so little time to blog. Sermons need some work as I’ve developed a background hummmmmm.
God Bless you all and I’ll get back on the blog in May!
I’ve slumped back into poor blogging (lack of) habits. But with Holy Week and a conference next week blogging time is hard to come by.
Here’s my mediation for the week – someone died for me how does that change my lifestyle?
See you on the other side of the resurrection!
Continuing the series of sermons inspired by Kyle Idleman and his work with a sermon on intimacy. Listen:
Sunday’s Sermon based upon Kyle Idlemen’s Not a Fan series.
So we are working on the study, “Not a Fan” by Kyle Idleman. It’s pretty good stuff. And today’s devotion asks us to define the words Devotion and Admiration. Then it asks the question which do you actually feel towards Jesus.
See we make all kinds of assertions about our love of Jesus but our lives just don’t prove it. To me devotion is personal, focused, and passionate whereas admiration is distant, general, and dispassionate.
How do you see it?
Thursday Morning Quarterback – Just doesn’t have the same ring. But here is Sunday’s sermon based upon the series Not a Fan by Kyle Idleman:
After 11 years of taking Friday off I’ve switched my day off to Monday. It feels strange to say the very least. Sabbath is very important. I think most people fail to recognize how important it is. Sure they say, “I need a day off.” or they say “Thank goodness it’s Friday (unless they decide to break another commandment)”; but I think even then they are trivializing the serious need for unscheduled time.
When it comes to Sabbath I’m a recreationalist; that is I believe it is a day for recreation, as rest too. I worship God on Sunday just like everyone else except my seat is in the front but on my day “off”. I do something entirely different, I work around the yard, spend time with my wife, or if time permits I go fishing. Which I did this week.
The day was gorgeous, the company was good, and the fish were somewhat agreeable. I am refreshed and that is the idea for as scripture says the Sabbath was made for man not man for the Sabbath.
So sisters and brothers – are you taking your Sabbath? It is on God’s top ten list – you might want to rethink your response.
We’re going to be taking up the “Not a Fan” study this week. Rolling it out in the Message and small groups – going to be, challenging, and empowering all at once. I can’t wait.
Jesus really didn’t come and maintain large crowds. The more seriously he explained his message the more seriously his followers had problems with it. It does make you wonder about how we validate our own lives. We look at our health, our wealth, our family, and from these we define our success. God seems to use a much different measure.
Honestly, this should scare us.
See you Sunday!
PS: Monday morning quarterback will be moving to Tuesday as I now will be taking Mondays off. Change – it happens.
This week’s sermon deals with the simple “doing” of the faith. It isn’t an abandonment of our calling to speak the gospel, or be holy, but one of the primary tasks of the Christian is to live it out listen!
